They really want a chance to make things big and being well – known by their friends and family. In fact, not so many industries can satisfy those demands, except for music industry. It’s all about excitement and opportunities to be rich! However, great profit comes with great responsibility. It’s never easy to actually get a job in showbiz and be a real part of it – not the part with any money and struggle for earning money to live.
First of all, as the way you find a normal job, you have to determine clearly about the position you want to apply for and the role of it in the music industry. That’s how you know which skills you need to have once applying for the position. Skills and hard – working are essential, but you also have to be enthusiastic and the ability to adapt to all situation to be better at work.
Many people think of music industry as a world of musicians, vocals and producers only, but actually, it’s just a small part of it. Let me show you something else you need to know, a list of jobs in this industry:
- Music producers: Singers, musicians, songwriters…
- Digital experts: Producers, DJs, Sound managers…
As you can see, being in the music industry doesn’t mean you have to be good at singing or playing instruments, but the fundamental thing is the love with music and your interest with musical events and news. There is no formula for a success story or a dream job, it depends on your efforts and you will get what you pay for.
Below is some small advice I want to send to you before considering any further steps in your career life:
Don’t Be Too General About Everything
Everybody wants to work in the music industry, but what job? And do you know how to get a job in one of the most competitive industries worldwide? That is the question you need to answer before thinking of anything else. I mean before you can apply for anything which is music – related, you have to know at least the skills you have and how potential you are to get a position in record companies or in projects. Be specific about yourself and your job as soon as possible since you might miss some chances or get lost if you don’t know what you have and what to do next.
And don’t forget to prepare your portfolio neatly from the beginning by building up a good CV with your experiences.
This is one of the most important steps if you want to go higher and walk further in this pathway. Your internship contract may be paid or unpaid according to the policies of the company, but at least you have one thing that others don’t have – the experience. In fact, records companies are really in need of interns for their projects since there are so many works to do at once. You will get your opportunities there, but please grab them tight and don’t lose them because of any reason.
Up – To – Date With Any Changes
Since you are working in an industry that changes every hour, if you can keep yourself up – to – date with even slightest changes, there would be so many opportunities to broaden your knowledge as well as adapt yourself to the new work.
There are countless of news and events that you have to keep in mind such as new released albums and singers, celebrities, businesses, projects… sometimes they would confuse you by the number of information need to be digested at once.
The best way to update news is following magazines and other types of social media. It can be the common one or the in – depth reviews. However, don’t be too greedy since no one can learn all things in just a few months. You should start with the subjects that you find interested in as well as information that is related to your current work. For example, if you are a songwriter, you might want to know the latest trends of music as well as the people you can co – operate within the future.
One of the most effective ways to expand relationships is going to the events. In these occasions, you will have chances to meet and make friends with people who share the same passion with you or even business opportunities that you haven’t thought of.
If you are an internship, it’s even more important to go to events since you can at least know things people talk about lately and how an event is hosted. They would be priceless lessons that no one can teach you.
With artists, going to an event is not only about dressing up, posing for magazines and saying something. It is also a good chance to promote their music products such as albums or songs. In fact, some not – so – famous artists have become well – known just by going to the right meeting and meet the right producers. That’s the way people want to have a business and also the reason why there are so many events.
One Final Word…
You may have so many help from your friends and relatives, you may be good at working as an artist or good at making good deals with others, but the main factor to be a success is nothing else but work hard. No one can climb the ladder of success without pushing one’s self to the limit and put all efforts to make changes.
Besides, working in music industry – a creative business means you have to be creative and impressive as well. No one wants to buy something boring and not interesting at all.
I hope you guys see this post helpful and have a good career life in the future!
