What Is K-Pop?
From the beginning, when talking to K-pop, people often think of the soundtracks from Korean drama and movies. They are mostly written for the films and TV shows so that the lyrics and melodies are often dramatic and gentle. The first K-pop songs were introduced in the late 90s along with Korean dramas.

He is considered one of the most famous K-pop artists at the age of 25. He is a songwriter, performer, singer in a group which is also very famous in Korea.
Not only good at rapping and songwriting, other famous artists often look for him to make hits. For example, in one of the recent albums, G – dragon has co – operated with Diplo and Bauer – two world – class DJs – to produce a masterpiece. G – Dragon’s fashion is considered influential and amazing.
- K-Pop Bands
One of the signature things, when you talk about K-pop, is how they produce bands. All boy and girl bands consist of so many members. They are special not only in the names (2NE1, B.A.P…) but also the number of a band member. For instance, a Korean boy band named EXO has 12 members which are split into 2 smaller groups EXO – K and EXO – M. Each group has their own style and performance. EXO – K performs mostly in Korea while its cousin performs in Mandarin. Other girl bands such as Girls’ Generation, T – ARA also have more than 5 members.
Though the bands have a large number of member, they can still work and perform without any delay or problem because behind them is another story about K-pop record companies.
Just like the music industry of other countries, the K-pop industry is estimated no less that billions of US dollars. There are some famous labels who are in charge of the musical activities of well – known artists such as SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment… each live show and album can make the profit of hundred thousand dollars for the K-pop singers and their companies. That’s the reason why recruiting and training pop stars is becoming one of the hottest ways for young singers to make money.
- Music Videos Are Must – See
Korean singers are really talented in both singing and dancing. That’s because of the band’s style requires them to know both of these. So as to be famous, K-pop bands have to put all efforts not only in generating catchy and signature tracks but also create decent MVs.
There is one thing about K-pop is their music videos (MVs). They are well – choreographed with complicated moves. Sometimes it’s unbelievable that the band members can perform the same move without messing things up. It requires so much training and efforts. Besides, the concepts and background of the video clips are taken care of very good. That’s the reason why even when you don’t know any Korean at all, you can still be addicted to K-pop and its style.

- Sasaeng: A fan who is too obsessed by her/his idol and goes way too over. It’s not good at all but some of us do.
- Oppa/Unnie…: In Southern Korea, it’s really important to call someone with these words to show respect. Actually, these words are the way people call people in different ages. When you like your idol and want to show you respect, use these words before calling their names.
- Aegyo: it means very cute and innocent. It’s the way fans often describe their idols.
K-pop is not only the Pop culture in South Korea, it’s also the way this country introduces the cultured beauty to the world.
